Former President Chun Doo-hwan will be summoned for questioning over huge sums of slush funds he is believed to have concealed. The Korea Herald reports the summons comes after prosecutors alleged that at least 7.3 billion won of the 16.7 billion won Chun`s second son is accused of managing under false names came from his father. The son, Jae-yong, was arrested on tax evasion charges. Prosecutors will question the former president about the money he allegedly gave his son and the full amount of the purported slush funds estimated to reach 200 billion won, according to prosecution sources. Chun was convicted of extorting 220.4 billion won from companies during his presidency in the 1980s and was ordered in 1997 to put the sums into state coffers. But the ex-dictator has refused to implement the court order. He said at a hearing last year he had only 291,000 won in financial assets, causing public derision and anger. Chun was summoned in 1995 for questioning on his roles in the 1979 military mutiny and subsequently arrested. He was sentenced to life in prison the following year but set free by a presidential pardon after serving only seven years. Facing to the times of 3 million Internet Users The Korea Times reports about two-thirds of South Koreans use the Internet regularly, meaning the nation has the world’s top Internet usage rate. The Korea Network Information Center yesterday reported South Korea had 29.22 million Internet users at the end of last year, up by 2.95 million from a year ago. Internet users, which officials define as those who access the Internet for one hour or more a month, accounted for 65.5 percent of the nation’s 44 million people aged six or above.
